On a beautiful Sunday morning I opened the doors to my Gaming Convention, the W3, in Aachen in the very west of Germany. On this event I hosted the 2nd Euregio Championship for Android Netrunner. One day after the Belgian Nationals and just a 30 minute car drive from its venue, we had a full blown Netrunner weekend in our Tri State Meta.
One difference to the tournament the day before was our cardpool; up and over was legal and so we had the same card legality as the Worlds one week after our little Get-together. So the basic conditions were set, 6th rounds of swiss it would be. The venue was upgraded to the first installment of the Euregio Championship, so we had more room for more players, a beamer and drinks and snacks!
Registration began at 9.00 and an hour later we had a field of 38 players, a bunch of french and belgian contestants and only a handful local players form the ACCG.
With help of my Assistant Ermel, i was able to do a lot random deck-checks and kept this to the first 20 minutes in every round, to not disturb the players to much. Typewritten deck-lists were mandatory, but i made a few exceptions.
Krystamn from Team WorkCast covered the torunament with his camera setup and will post the videos. After round 1 he filmed the Top-table and captured a lot of interesting matches.
We planed a break after round 3 and announced the start time of round 4 to the attendees before round 3, so that they could plan their lunch or break, giving everybody a minimum of 30 minutes.
At this given time 7 players were absent. So i delayed the start for ten minutes while informing the present tournament attendees of this and my ruling if at the start of the match an opponent of theirs would not be in the venue.
After this extension the field lacked 5 players and i gave the go with 5 matches impaired. My ruling with those cases was to give one gamewin to the present player and let him choose the faction to play in the other game of the match, if his opponent arrived with more than 40 minutes on the game clock. In two cases this ruling was accepted and carried out, two participants decided two take rather a match loss and in one case the waiting player decided to try to play both games, in which this pairing succeeded. Big thanks to Elmo for that.
So a little comment to this situation, because it was part my fault, not having enough food on location and i am very sorry for this. I apologized to all players affected and hope that there are no bad feelings. It was my first gaming convention, hosting and managing this event was stressful and took a lot of planing. The day before we had more visitors than i had anticipated, a good deal more. And they ate all my provisions for both days. I improvised with help of many friends, i have to thank, but the official holiday on Saturday made it near to impossible to get stock for Sunday. This will not happen again and the 3rd Euregio Championship will provide a lunch possibility in the venue!
Back to the tournament. In round 4 i was called to the top table and had to do a deck-check, with a deck i had not previously checked, which let to a disqualification of Russino. He had built a deck with 16 influence. On his handwritten decklist i did not make that out as he registered. So starting with round 5 we had a Bye, but the great Russino was fun and fair enough to play against the Bye player.
We had a explicit victor after 6 rounds without the help of tie breakers and held a little cermony where i distributed 9 mates (one of those goes as always to the last player), 8 deckboxes, 3 special AA cards and some extra stuff. Participation price was Wyldside and Katie/Adonis.
My thanks got to every participant, Ermel, daniel and Smiling Monster Games for sponsoring some prices. Congratulations to Ff0x and good luck at the worlds to him and Jürgen!
